24 1 Post quinque autem dies descendit princeps sacerdotum Ananias, cum senioribus quibusdam, et Tertullo quodam oratore, qui adierunt præsidem adversus Paulum. 24 1 After five days Ananias, the chief priest, came down, with some of the elders, and Tertullus, a certain orator, who went to the governor against Paul. 24 1 Depois de cinco dias, o sumo sacerdote Ananias, com os anciãos e um certo Tertullus, que denunciou o governador contra. 2 Et citato Paulo cœpit accusare Tertullus, dicens : Cum in multa pace agamus per te, et multa corrigantur per tuam providentiam, 3 semper et ubique suscipimus, optime Felix, cum omni gratiarum actione. 2 And Tertullus, quoting Paulus, began to accuse him, saying: Since we do in much peace through you, and many things are corrected through your providence, 3 we always and everywhere receive him, most blessed Felix, with all thanksgiving. 4 Ne diutius autem te protraham, oro, breviter audias nos pro tua clementia. 4 But let me not drag you out any longer, I beg you to hear us briefly for your clemency. 5 Invenimus hunc hominem pestiferum, et concitantem seditiones omnibus Judæis in universo orbe, et auctorem seditionis sectæ Nazarenorum : 6 qui etiam templum violare conatus est, quem et apprehensum voluimus secundum legem nostram judicare. 5 We found this man pestilent, and inciting seditions among all the Jews in the whole world, and the initiator of the sedition of the sect of the Nazarenes: 6 who also tried to violate the temple, whom we wanted to judge according to our law when he was apprehended. 7 Superveniens autem tribunus Lysias, cum vi magna eripuit eum de manibus nostris, 8 jubens accusatores ejus ad te venire : a quo poteris ipse judicans, de omnibus istis cognoscere, de quibus nos accusamus eum. 7 Lysias, the tribune, having arrived, with great force rescued him from our hands, 8 commanding his accusers to come to you: from whom you will be able, judging yourself, to learn about all these things about which we accuse him. 9 Adjecerunt autem et Judæi, dicentes hæc ita se habere. 9 And the Jews also added, saying that these things are so. 10 Respondit autem Paulus (annuente sibi præside dicere) : Ex multis annis te esse judicem genti huic sciens, bono animo pro me satisfaciam. 10 And Paul answered (nodding to him to say to the president): Knowing that you have been the judge of this nation for many years, I will make satisfaction for myself with a good heart. 11 Potes enim cognoscere quia non plus sunt mihi dies quam duodecim, ex quo ascendi adorare in Jerusalem : 12 et neque in templo invenerunt me cum aliquo disputantem, aut concursum facientem turbæ, neque in synagogis, neque in civitate : 13 neque probare possunt tibi de quibus nunc me accusant. 11 For you can know that I have not had more than twelve days since I went up to worship in Jerusalem: 12 and they did not find me in the temple disputing with anyone, or making a meeting with the crowd, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city: 13 nor can they prove to you about with which they now accuse me. 14 Confiteor autem hoc tibi, quod secundum sectam quam dicunt hæresim, sic deservio Patri et Deo meo, credens omnibus quæ in lege et prophetis scripta sunt : 15 spem habens in Deum, quam et hi ipsi exspectant, resurrectionem futuram justorum et iniquorum. 14 But I confess this to you, that according to the sect which they call heresy, so I serve my Father and my God, believing all that is written in the law and the prophets: 15 having hope in God, which they themselves expect, the future resurrection of the just and the unjust. 16 In hoc et ipse studeo sine offendiculo conscientiam habere ad Deum et ad homines semper. 16 In this I also endeavor without stumbling to have a conscience toward God and men always. 17 Post annos autem plures eleemosynas facturus in gentem meam, veni, et oblationes, et vota, 18 in quibus invenerunt me purificatum in templo : non cum turba, neque cum tumultu. 17 After many years, I came to my nation to do alms, and offerings, and vows, 18 in which they found me purified in the temple: not with a crowd, nor with a tumult. 19 Quidam autem ex Asia Judæi, quos oportebat apud te præsto esse, et accusare si quid haberent adversum me : 20 aut hi ipsi dicant si quid invenerunt in me iniquitatis cum stem in concilio, 21 nisi de una hac solummodo voce qua clamavi inter eos stans : Quoniam de resurrectione mortuorum ego judicor hodie a vobis. 19 And some of the Jews from Asia, whom it was necessary to be present with you, and to accuse if they had anything against me: 20 or let these themselves say if they found any iniquity in me with a stem in the council, 21 except for this one voice alone which I cried out standing among them : For I judge this day from you concerning the resurrection of the dead.

22 Distulit autem illos Felix, certissime sciens de via hac, dicens : Cum tribunus Lysias descenderit, audiam vos. 22 And Felix, knowing most certainly of this way, dismissed them, saying: When the tribune of Lysias comes down, I will hear you. 23 Jussitque centurioni custodire eum, et habere requiem, nec quemquam de suis prohibere ministrare ei. 23 And he commanded the centurion to guard him, and to give him rest, and not to prevent any of his men from ministering to him. 24 Post aliquot autem dies veniens Felix cum Drusilla uxore sua, quæ erat Judæa, vocavit Paulum, et audivit ab eo fidem quæ est in Christum Jesum. 24 After some days Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess, and called Paulus, and heard from him the faith which is in Christ Jesus. 25 Disputante autem illo de justitia, et castitate, et de judicio futuro, tremefactus Felix, respondit : Quod nunc attinet, vade : tempore autem opportuno accersam te : 26 simul et sperans quod pecunia ei daretur a Paulo, propter quod et frequenter accersens eum, loquebatur cum eo. 25 And when he was disputing with him about justice, chastity, and the future judgment, Felix, trembling, answered: As for the present matter, go: but at the proper time I will call you: 26 and at the same time hoping that money would be given to him by Paul, for which reason he frequently called upon him. He talked with him. 27 Biennio autem expleto, accepit successorem Felix Portium Festum. 27 And at the end of the two years, he received as his successor Felix Portius Festus. Volens autem gratiam præstare Judæis Felix, reliquit Paulum vinctum. But Felix, wishing to show favor to the Jews, left Paul bound.
