Rom 08
Rome 08
8 1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus: who do not walk according to the flesh.
2 Lex enim spiritus vitæ in Christo Jesu liberavit me a lege peccati et mortis.
2 For the law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus has freed me from the law of sin and death.
3 For what was impossible for the law, in which it was weakened through the flesh: God, sending his Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and from sin, condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the justification of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
5 For those who are according to the flesh understand the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the spirit feel the things of the spirit.
6 For the prudence of the flesh is death: but the prudence of the spirit is life and peace: 7 because the wisdom of the flesh is hostile to God: for it is not subject to the law of God, nor can it
8 But those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if the Spirit of God dwells in you.
But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this is not his.
10 But if Christ is in you, the body is indeed dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of justification.
11 Quod si Spiritus ejus, qui suscitavit Jesum a mortuis, habitat in vobis : qui suscitavit Jesum Christum a mortuis, vivificabit et mortalia corpora vestra, propter inhabitantem Spiritum ejus in vobis.
11 But if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you: he who raised Jesus Christ from the dead will also quicken your mortal bodies, because of his Spirit dwelling in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors not to the flesh, that we may live according to the flesh.
13 For if ye live according to the flesh, ye shall die: but if by the spirit ye have mortified the deeds of the flesh, ye shall live.
14 For all who are moved by the Spirit of God, those are the children of God.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery again in fear, but you received the spirit of adoption as sons, in which we cry: Abba (Father).
16 For the Spirit himself bears witness to our spirit that we are children of God.
17 But if children and heirs: heirs indeed of God, but joint heirs of Christ: if we are pitied, that we may also be glorified.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this time are not worthy of the future glory which will be revealed in us.
19 Nam exspectatio creaturæ revelationem filiorum Dei exspectat.
19 For the expectation of the creature awaits the revelation of the children of God.
20 For the creature is subjected to vanity not willingly, but because of him who subjected it in hope: 21 because the creature itself will be freed from the slavery of corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
22 For we know that every creature groans and gives birth until now.
23 And not only that, but we ourselves having the firstfruits of the spirit: and we ourselves groan within ourselves, awaiting the adoption of the sons of God, the redemption of our body.
24 Spe enim salvi facti sumus.
24 For we are saved by hope.
But hope that is seen is not hope: for what one sees, what does one hope for?
25 But if we do not see, we hope: we wait with patience.
26 And likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmity: for we do not know what we should pray for, as we ought: but the Spirit himself pleads for us with inexpressible groans.
27 But he who examines hearts knows what the Spirit longs for: because according to God he asks for the saints.
28 But we know that all things work together for good to those who care for God, to those who are called saints according to purpose.
29 For those whom he foresaw and predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he himself might be the firstborn among many brothers.
30 And whom he predestined, these he also called: and whom he called, these he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31 Quid ergo dicemus ad hæc ?
31 What then shall we say to these things?
32 He spared not even his own Son, but delivered him up for us all: how did he not also with him give us all things?
33 Quis accusabit adversus electos Dei ?
33 Who will accuse God's elect?
Deus qui justificat, 34 quis est qui condemnet ?
God who justifies, 34 who is he who condemns?
35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ?
tribulatio ?
an angustia ?
or distress?
an fames ?
or are you hungry?
an nuditas ?
or nudity?
an periculum ?
or danger?
an persecutio ?
an gladius ?
or a sword?
36 (Sicut scriptum est :
Quia propter te mortificamur tota die :
Because for your sake we are mortified all day long.
æstimati sumus sicut oves occisionis.)
We are counted as sheep for the slaughter.)
37 Sed in his omnibus superamus propter eum qui dilexit nos.
37 But in all these we overcome because of him who loved us.
38 For I am certain that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor virtues, nor existence, nor the future, nor strength, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord
