Matt. 19
Mat. 19
||||he had finished||speeches|these|he migrated|to|||||borders|||Jordan||followed||||||he healed|them|there
1 Now when Jesus had departed from Galilee and entered the region of Judea, beyond Jordan, 2, and followed him, and he healed them there.
|approached||||tempting|||||it is allowed|a man|divorce|wife||for any reason|for|
3 And the Pharisees came to him, testing him, and saying: 'Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?'
|||||you have not read|||made|||from the beginning|male||woman|made|them
4 He answered and said to them: 'Have you not read that he who made man from the beginning made them male and female?'
||||will leave||||||will cling|to his wife|his wife|||two||flesh|
And he said: '5 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.'
Therefore|now||||||one flesh
6 Therefore they are no longer two, but one flesh.
Quod ergo Deus conjunxit, homo non separet.
|therefore||joined|||separate
What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.
7 Dicunt illi : Quid ergo Moyses mandavit dare libellum repudii, et dimittere ?
They say|||||||a certificate|of divorce||
7 They said to him: Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?
|||||hardness|||permitted|||wives|||||||

9 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for fornication, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.
||||||||||wife|||to marry
10 His disciples say to him: If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry.
|||||understand||this||||
11 But he said to them: Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it has been given.

12 For there are eunuchs who were thus born from the mother's womb: and there are eunuchs who were made by men: and there are eunuchs who castrated themselves for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.
Qui potest capere capiat.
|||let him take
He who can take it, let him take it.
|were brought|||||||he would impose||he would pray
Then little children were brought to him, that he might lay his hands on them and pray.
Discipuli autem increpabant eos.
||were rebuking|
But the disciples rebuked them.
|||||||||to prohibit||||||||
14 But Jesus said to them: Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them: for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.
15 Et cum imposuisset eis manus, abiit inde.
||he had laid||||
15 And when he had laid his hands on them, he went away from there.
16 Et ecce unus accedens, ait illi : Magister bone, quid boni faciam ut habeam vitam æternam ?
|behold||||||good||good|||I may have||eternal
16 And behold, one came up to him, saying: Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?
17 Qui dixit ei : Quid me interrogas de bono ?
|||||ask||
17 He said to him: Why do you ask me about what is good?
Unus est bonus, Deus.
There is only one who is good, God.
||||||keep|
But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.
18 Dicit illi : Quæ ?
18 He said to him: What?

But Jesus said: You shall not murder; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; 19 honor your father and your mother, and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.
20 Dicit illi adolescens : Omnia hæc custodivi a juventute mea : quid adhuc mihi deest ?
|||||||youth|||||is lacking
20 The young man said to him: All these I have kept from my youth up: what do I still lack?

|||||||||rich|difficult||||

||||were amazed|||||will be able||
25 When they heard this, the disciples were greatly astonished, saying: Who then can be saved?
||||||||||||||possible|
26 But Jesus, looking at them, said: With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
27 Tunc respondens Petrus, dixit ei : Ecce nos reliquimus omnia, et secuti sumus te : quid ergo erit nobis ?
|||||||have left||||we have followed|||||
27 Then Peter answering said to him: Behold, we have left all things, and have followed thee: what therefore will there be for us?

28 And Jesus said to them: Amen I say to you, that you who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit on the seat of his majesty, you also shall sit on twelve seats, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
